whobest-leadRalph Lauren has been doing the same thing year in and out since he first decided to ditch his Jewish ancestory for the all-american steez that he owns with a vengence today.

I don’t know what changed in his world-but about a year ago he started Rugby-the younger-more with the times-brother/sister of Polo.

Don’t get me wrong, this is still Ralph Lauren at his best-in all his khaki-ness, but at least he has made room for a little sag in the pants (maybe even a cuff and a crease?).

The ” create your own Rugby program” that they have running on their site has to get some love too. Nike ID meets Prep School.

Check their stuff out-paired nicely-it has potential to look damn good.

The Return of the Murse

dude

Being the only female contributor to this blog-I can say this…

I used to be down with the Murse. Remember when the select dude could pull off a cargo bag from the Army/Navy store? You could make it fly if you were a Wallaby wearing, backpack rockin, huge headphones,  kinda guy.

But this ish has gotten out of control! Above, Ice Cream’s collection for Spring…………….seriously?

IS THAT A TOTE BAG!?!?  What is a man toting around that requires something that looks like a womens beach purse? Bad design decision, check the exectution too…waffle cone print!?…The pink ice cream character is really big uppin’ this jawn too (not).

NEED to see a thug sling this over his shoulder while beating the street.

I feel bad for the model-look at him.

Not to mention they are jockin’ Marc Jacobs hard on this one. Pharell-you fuckin’ up.

Best known for his Beautiful Losers film, Aaron Rose is a central figure in contemporary outsider arts. Championing artists and art with a common cultural thread – connections to skateboarding and graffiti – Rose can be found curating exhibitions, directing films, and editing magazines. Through all these Rose strives to inspire viewers through the visual arts, and most importantly document movements that may escape the mainstream.

Given the press surrounding Rose’s ventures, there is no doubt that his efforts are appreciated. However, it remains to note just how important the work becomes for future generations. More than simply sharing passion, Rose has archived a staggering amount of material. Through the film, through the magazines, and of course, in the exhibitions. People like Rose, those who understand the validity of capturing a moment, are vital to the process of history making.

Telling stories that are generally ignored does not always yield the accolades Rose receives. Yet, attempts to do so should not be dismissed. These are what establishes the voices of each generation. Builds the body of record that makes our lives understandable to future art lovers and cultural scholars. For this, Rose sets a true standard.

On April 9, Rose brings together the works of Barry McGee, Ed Templeton, and Raymond Pettibon, for an exhibition at Berlin’s Circle Culture Gallery. The three artists have never been shown together, but are culturally connected through skateboarding, graffiti and punk. They are indicative of the people Rose champions. Accepted into the art world, they remain outsiders for their reverence and firm connections to their subcultural roots. In short, as interest in them builds, little changes in their outlook. And, that is just what Rose is about.
